What it’s like to do date night at Scottsdale’s swanky new Shiv Supper Club

Discover the immersive fine dining experience at Shiv Supper Club in Scottsdale, where live music and indulgent dishes redefine the modern date night.

Shiv Supper Club in Scottsdale isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to indulge.

On the Sunday night over Memorial Day weekend, my boyfriend and I snagged a reservation at this newly opened fine dining spot from Riot Hospitality Group (who also brought you such concepts as Farm & Craft, Riot House, El Hefe, Club House at Maya, Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, Cake Nightclub, The District and Hand Cut). It felt like we’d been dropped into a cinematic mashup of a modern steakhouse, a swanky lounge, and a lively concert.

We didn’t just sit down for a meal—we entered a full-on experience.

A bold first impression

From the moment we stepped into the massive 13,000-square-foot space, Shiv was a visual stunner. Moody lighting, rich textures, and sculptural greenery set the tone: dramatic, sexy, and clearly engineered for people who appreciate the art of presentation. The energy was dialed up but not chaotic, and the crowd was very Scottsdale—glamorous, dressed to be noticed, and clearly there for a night out, not just dinner.

We were seated at a table near the bar, perfectly positioned to take in the action. A live band, NightCap, held court on the stage with high-energy renditions of chart-toppers by Calvin Harris, James Hype, and more. The saxophonist wailed as the lead singer floated through the room, engaging guests tableside and adding a level of immersive entertainment that elevated the entire vibe. It’s not background music—it’s part of the show.

Cocktails & conversation starters

We kicked off the night with martinis—his classic dirty, no vermouth, mine the Gold N Bleu, which came topped with a luxurious cloud of blue cheese foam, 24-karat gold flakes, and a glass filled with extra olives. It was indulgent, complex, and a conversation piece from the moment it hit the table.

The drink menu at Shiv leans into creativity, with unexpected ingredients like salt and vinegar chips, olive oil, and pepperoncini brine—all served with flair and intention.

A mix of culinary hits (and a couple misses)

We started with the truffle bread service—we loved watching the chef generously shave fresh truffle into the butter tableside, and the straight-out-of-the-oven bread was delectable. Next came caviar bumps served with crème fraiche and scallions. Both starters were smart, elevated bites that showcased the kitchen’s attention to detail.

The gorgeous and delicious seafood tower followed, featuring beautifully chilled and fresh shrimp, oysters, and crab claws—I’m sad to learn it’s since been removed from the menu, as it was one of our favorite dishes of the evening.

The entrées, however, were a mixed bag. The short rib agnolotti didn’t quite hit—it lacked punch and felt a bit muted in flavor. The prime ribeye was seasoned well, but the texture of the meat itself was a bit tough.

As for sides, we tried the apple pie mac and cheese, the corn and crab brulee, and the gold leaf pave. The mac and cheese was an intriguing concept, and while the flavors worked surprisingly, the consistency was far too dense to eat more than a bite or two, especially paired with rich mains. The corn and crab brulee turned out to be a surprising standout: creamy, sweet, and torched to golden perfection—my boyfriend and I kept fighting forks to get to the skillet it was served in. And the gold leaf pave—topped with shimmering edible gold and caviar—was both beautiful and tasty.

For dessert, we tried the PB Cube, which completely redeemed the savory slip-ups: a glossy chocolate shell filled with peanut butter mousse and brownie. It was rich, playful, and a memorable final note.

The Dessert Room: A late-night seduction

While we didn’t experience it firsthand, Shiv’s Dessert Room deserves a mention. Starting at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, the main dining space transforms into an immersive, indulgent late-night lounge where desserts, champagne, and live entertainment take center stage.

Created by acclaimed pastry chef Nundi Harris, this separate, reservation-only experience includes over-the-top sweets like the flambéed Bananas Foster Baked Alaska, fruit-based “caviar” pearls over panna cotta, and the signature PB Cube for a dramatic dessert encore. The Dessert Room leans into a bold nightlife energy, blurring the line between final course and afterparty—making it a tempting reason to return.

What’s in a name?

The name “Shiv” isn’t just a clever branding moment—it’s rooted in culinary history. In the 1700s, a “shiv” referred to a hand-crafted knife, often carried as a personal tool and considered an extension of the chef.

That legacy is honored throughout the experience, including the tableware: Shiv uses Corby Hall’s American-made Tomahawk Steak Knives, forged with heavyweight stainless steel and built for performance. Holding one feels like wielding a weapon of precision, both form and function. It’s a rare moment when the cutlery becomes a talking point, but here, it’s totally on-brand. And I now think I need to buy a set for my own kitchen.

Room to grow

It’s worth noting that Shiv Supper Club is still finding its rhythm. Our server was friendly but a bit scattered early on, and a few dishes didn’t quite live up to their ambitious description or presentation. But given the atmosphere, entertainment, and quality behind RHG’s other concepts, I’d come back in a few months to see how it evolves. It has all the elements of a destination dining experience—it just needs a bit more time to polish the edges.

Who should book a reservation

Shiv Supper Club is ideal for couples looking for a night out that blends upscale dining with a little bit of showmanship. It’s also a great spot for groups of friends who want dinner with a side of nightlife. It’s not the place for a quiet, intimate meal—but if you want to dress up, be entertained, and eat something Instagram-worthy, Shiv delivers.
