Barnes & Noble opening store in Phoenix for first time in 20 years

By Jessica Swarner

June 23, 2025
In recent years, you’ve probably seen article after article about big bookstores closing down as they’ve lost out to Amazon and other online retailers.

But here’s something new: For the first time in 20 years, a Barnes & Noble is opening in Phoenix.

The store is taking over what was Forever 21 at The Shops at Town & Country in Phoenix, off 20th Street and Camelback Road.

It opens June 25 at 9 a.m., and the company is marking the occasion with a book signing with Kathleen Glasgow, author of “Girl in Pieces” and “The Glass Girl.”

It’s not just Phoenix seeing this resurgence—Barnes & Noble is planning to open over 60 stores this year.

While the opening is exciting, don’t forget about all of our state’s wonderful independent booksellers. They’re another great place to browse for books in person!
